[20.11.2012] At the meeting they held in Moscow on the occasion of Universal Children's Day the parliamentarians undertook to ensure that their countries put in place a sound legislative framework to outlaw sexual violence against children, including by people within the child’s circle of trust.
On adopting this "Moscow Declaration", they underlined the need actively to promote the signature, ratification and effective implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse and to ensure that national budgets provide adequate funding for awareness raising and prevention activities in the context of the ONE in FIVE campaign to combat sexual violence against children.
They also gave their backing to policies that support parents, families and those close to children so that they can give them a positive education, enhancing their physical and psychological well-being and their future development as adults.
The next meeting of the network will take place in Strasbourg during the January 2013 part-session. At the initiative of Marlene Rupprecht (Germany, SOC), the General Rapporteur on Children, the contact parliamentarians will subsequently meet in Berlin on 14 March 2013.
