Copyright in the digital environment

Strasbourg, 12.03.2010 - PACE Standing Committee, meeting in Paris today, recommended that the Committee of Ministers initiate a future-oriented study on copyright in the digital environment and give thought to the changes required to guarantee a flexible legal apparatus, enabling copyright law to adapt more easily to technical, economic and social changes.

Questions relating to the legal status of certain Internet stakeholders (access providers, content-sharing platforms, search engines) with regard to copyright as well as the exceptions and limitations essential to freedom of expression and information should also be dealt with in this context, the parliamentarians concluded following their debate on a report by José Luis Arnaut (Portugal, EPP/CD).
