PACE to observe the parliamentary elections in Georgia

Strasbourg, 25.09.2012 – A 22-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Luca Volontè (Italy, EPP/CD), will travel to Georgia from 29 September to 2 October to observe the conduct of the parliamentary elections alongside observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, European Parliament, NATO Parliamentary Assembly and OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

The delegation will meet representatives of the political parties and coalitions running in the elections, the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, the Chairman of the Voters' List Verification Commission and the Chairman of the State Audit, as well as representatives of civil society and the media, before being deployed around the country to observe the ballot on 1 October.

A member of the Venice Commission – the Council of Europe's group of independent legal experts – will provide legal support during the visit.

A PACE pre-electoral delegation visited Tbilisi on 11 and 12 September.
