PACE delegation attends St Petersburg conference on role of parliamentary organisations

Strasbourg, 10.04.2013 – A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), headed by its President Jean-Claude Mignon, participates in a parliamentary conference in St Petersburg on 12 April on “The role of parliamentary organisations in building a Europe without dividing lines”.

Topics to be covered at the conference, co-organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) and PACE, include “The role of parliaments in protecting and promoting human rights” and “From mistrust to understanding – the role of parliamentarians”.

The President is also due to hold a bilateral meeting with Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council, the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament. A day earlier, on 11 April, he will have bilateral meetings with the speakers of various parliaments of the CIS region and will address the IPA CIS Council.
