Situation and safety of Christian communities in the Middle East and the Southern Mediterranean

The PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy will organise on 7 May in Athens a conference on “Freedom of religion or belief in the Middle East and the Southern Mediterranean: the situation and safety of Christian communities”, hosted by the Hellenic Parliament.

This conference, which will be open by the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, the Greek Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, and by PACE President, will include the participation of religious leaders, experts, representatives of parliaments of Algeria, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, of the National Constituent Assembly of Tunisia, and of the Palestinian National Council as well as representatives from Egypt.

The conference will be held in the framework of the activities financed by the “South Programme” agreed between the Council of Europe and the EU.
