Post-monitoring rapporteur returns to Bulgaria for high-level meetings

Frano Matušic (Croatia, EPP/CD), PACE’s rapporteur for post-monitoring dialogue with Bulgaria, is in Sofia on 2-5 June for high-level meetings with members of the government, opposition and judiciary.

He is due to meet the Speaker, President, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign and Justice Ministers, as well as representatives of different parliamentary groups. Other meetings are planned with the head of the Central Election Commission, the head of the Supreme Court of Cassation, Bulgaria’s Ombudsman and representatives of civil society organisations.

The Assembly ended its monitoring of Bulgaria in 2000, but continues to hold a dialogue with the authorities, judiciary and civil society over a number of outstanding issues concerning the obligations and commitments Bulgaria took on when it joined the Council of Europe in 1992.
