First regional seminar for parliamentarians on ECHR held in Tbilisi

A first regional seminar on the role of national parliaments in implementing the standards of the European Convention of Human Rights took place in Tbilisi (Georgia) on 21 and 22 September. It was organised by the Parliamentary Project Support Division in cooperation with the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, within the framework of the Eastern Partnership 2015-2017*.

Members of Parliaments from the five Eastern Partnership countries were invited to this seminar: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine as well as PACE Members of other Council of Europe state members and independent experts, specialists in this field.

Discussions were held on the compatibility of draft laws with the ECHR standards and on the role of parliaments in the effective execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
