Diaspora policies: regional seminar in Rabat

The first regional seminar of the Parliamentary Network on Diaspora Policies (PPSD), launched in Lisbon in September 2017, will be organised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in Rabat on 8 February, at the invitation of the Moroccan Parliament.

This event will be the first activity organised in 2018, in cooperation with the South Programme “Towards a Strengthened Democratic Governance in the Southern Mediterranean”.

The Regional Seminar is organised by PPSD and the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons and its Parliamentary Network on Diaspora Policies, whose main goal is to broaden the discussion on diaspora policies to include parliamentarians of the PACE partner countries of the region. As well as the Parliament of Morocco, representatives from the parliaments of Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine have been invited.

The discussions between members of parliaments and representatives of diasporas will focus in particular on integration policies of host countries and on the prevention of radicalisation of migrants through integration. The roles of national parliaments and of diaspora associations in the prevention of extremism and radicalisation through social and economic inclusion, despite cultural and religious differences, will be at the heart of the discussions.
