PACE to observe the referendum in “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”

Strasbourg, 25.09.2018 – Following an invitation from the authorities, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will send a four-member delegation to “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” to observe the conduct of the referendum organised following the agreement signed by Greece and “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” on 17 June 2018, alongside observers from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

The delegation, led by Stefan Schennach (Austria, SOC), will travel to the country from 28 September to 1 October, and will meet leaders and representatives of political parties, the President of the State Election Commission, as well as representatives of the media and NGOs, before observing the voting on 30 September.

A member of the Venice Commission – the Council of Europe's group of independent legal experts – will provide legal support during the visit.
