Transportation policies in Europe

Motion for a resolution
presented by Mr. Ilicali and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

Intermodal transportation, in other words transporting the material through more than one mode of transport, has become a widely recognized and accepted way of transportation not only throughout Europe, but in the world as well.

As a result of increasing negative aspects of the road / highway transportation (high-cost investments for the highway constructions, maintenance costs, traffic accidents, pollution, etc.), the intermodal transportation aims to balance the ways of transportation by using the other transportation models like maritime transportation, combined transportation, etc. This not only contributes positively to the environmental concerns, but also constitutes a more effective, secure and fast model of transportation.

The study on the transportation policies in Europe, “White Book: Time for Decision” issued by the European Commission on 2001; foresees the following for the next decade, if the necessary measures are not taken:

On the other hand, there are some problems in the countries, which are located on the main European intermodal transportation routes.

In light of the above, a comprehensive study should be made that will analyse the importance of the intermodal transportation and major problems in this field arising from the passage documents, unfair penalties and visas.
