Extension of the mandate of all the peace-keeping forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Doc. 7561

20 May 1996

MOTION FOR A RECOMMENDATION

presented by Mr SEITLINGER and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

            The Assembly,

            Considers that a premature retreat by IFOR from Bosnia and Herzegovina would seriously jeopardise the implementation of the Dayton Agreements and, consequently, the chances for peace and stability in the country;

            Moreover, only the maintaining of IFOR troops would guarantee the return of refugees and displaced persons and the reconstruction of the country;

            For these reasons the Assembly firmly requests that the mandate of all the United Nations peace-keeping forces be extended and recommends that the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers takes action to this end.
