One year after the adoption of its last report on Syrian refugees,
the Parliamentary Assembly can but note a constant worsening of
the situation, in particular due to the rise of the terrorist group
known as “Islamic State”.
According to the UNHCR, 4 million refugees have fled the country
and there are some 7.5 million internally displaced persons, whose
situation is increasingly worrying. In 2014 alone, the conflict
set a grim record of 76 000 deaths, including 3 500 children.
In the face of this unprecedented humanitarian crisis, the
Assembly reiterates its appeal to States to show solidarity and
a sense of responsibility, in particular by increasing the funds
allocated to humanitarian organisations and supporting, as far as
possible, the resettlement and humanitarian admission plan.
