Recommendation 2159 (2019)
Ending violence against children: a Council of Europe contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals
1. The Parliamentary Assembly refers
to its Resolution 2294
(2019) “Ending violence against children: a Council of
Europe contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals”, Resolution 2271 (2019) and Recommendation 2150 (2019) on
strengthening co-operation with the United Nations in implementing
the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and Resolution 2272 (2019) “Implementation
of the Sustainable Development Goals: synergy needed on the part
of all stakeholders, from parliaments to local authorities”.
2. The Assembly believes that Sustainable Development Goal Target
16.2 to “end abuse, exploitation, trafficking and all forms of violence
against and torture of children” is one of the top targets for which
the contribution of the Council of Europe will prove to be the most
valuable. It thus recommends that the Committee of Ministers focus
efforts on:
2.1. accelerating progress
towards reaching this target in member States, including by keeping
issues of violence against children high up on the agenda of the
Council of Europe’s intergovernmental and monitoring bodies dealing
with children’s rights;
2.2. working together with the United Nations in accelerating
progress worldwide.
