WELCOME BY MR MEVLÜT ÇAVUŞOĞLU, PRESIDENT

OF THE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE COUNCIL

OF EUROPE, FOR MR ANGEL GURRÍA, SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE ORGANISATION FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT (OECD)

(STRASBOURG, WEDNESDAY 6 OCTOBER 2010, 12.00 A.M.)

Dear Secretary-General,

I am very pleased to welcome you again to our Chamber, with which you have become well acquainted over the past years. I wish to extend this welcome to Aart de Geus, Deputy Secretary General, who accompanies Mr Gurría on this occasion, and also greet our parliamentary guests from Canada, Japan and Mexico.

Let me extend a special welcome to our parliamentary colleagues from Chile who join us for the first time for the enlarged debate…

Two years have now elapsed since the start of the global financial crisis. Although the worst has been avoided, governments still have to address the consequences.

The OECD helped us to see more clearly what lessons should be drawn from the crisis and what could be our way forward. We greatly appreciate your efforts in pushing politicians to fix stricter rules of transparency, governance and accountability. This, we hope, will help develop and anchor a long-term vision based on high ethical standards. I thank you, Mr Gurría for your contribution to our debate today and ask you to take the floor…
