The Bureau of the Assembly, meeting on 24 January 2000, with Lord Russell-Johnston in the chair,

• updated the draft order of business of the first part of the 2000 Ordinary Session of the Assembly

(24-28 January 2000);

 

• approved the draft agenda of the Joint Committee meeting (27 January 2000);

 

• agreed to replace Mrs Gatterer (Austria, EPP/CD) by Mr Bühler (Germany, EPP/CD) as rapporteur for the Progress Report of the Bureau and the Standing Committgee;

 

• held an exchange of views on the conflict in Chechnya, following the visit of the ad hoc Committee of the Bureau;

• decided to transmit the request for the observer status of the Parliament of Kazakhstan to the Political Affairs Committee;

 

• took note of and declassified the reports on the parliamentary elections in Russia (19 December 1999) and Croatia (3 January 2000);

 

• decided to hold its next meeting in Strasbourg on Friday 28 January 2000 at 8 am.
