TO THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE ON CULTURE, SCIENCE AND EDUCATION

The Sub-Committee on Youth and Sport (Committee on Culture, Science and Education) meeting in Malta on 19-20 November 2001with Mr Hancock in the chair:

-         was welcomed by Mr Anton Tabone, Speaker of the House of Representatives and by Mr John Vella, Chairman of the Maltese Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly;

-         held a thorough discussion on the draft sports law for Malta, presented by Mr Jesmond Mugliett, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, with Maltese Members of Parliament, Members of the CDDS Bureau and representatives of the Malta Sport Council, Malta Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Education;

-         took part in the National Seminar “Introducing a Sports Law for Malta” with Members of Parliament, Members of the CDDS Bureau, representatives of the Malta Sport Council, Malta Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Education, sport federations, associations and clubs, journalists and the general public;

-         held an exchange of views on sport cooperation in Europe (Rapporteur: Mr Kiely, Ireland, LDR) and agreed to work together with the CDDS in the preparation of the report;

-         visited the University of Malta sports complex;

-         decided to hold its next meeting during the January 2002 Assembly part-session.
