The Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, meeting in Strasbourg on 24 January 2000 with Mr Neuwirth (France, EDG) oldest member present, and then, Mrs Roudy (France, SOC) in the Chair,

- elected Mrs Roudy (France, SOC) Chairperson by acclamation;

- elected Mrs Busic (Croatia, EPP/CD) first Vice-Chairperson by acclamation;

- elected Mrs Poptodorova (Bulgaria, SOC) second Vice-Chairperson by acclamation;

 

• decided to elect its third Vice-Chairperson at its next meeting,

• then, continuing its meeting on 27 January 2000, with Mrs Busic (Croatia, EPP/CD) in the Chair, as regards:

• rape in armed conflicts (Rapporteur: Mrs Stanoiu, Romania, SOC): considered a preliminary draft resolution;

• violence against women in Europe (Rapporteur: Mrs Vermot-Mangold, Switzerland, SOC): considered a preliminary draft recommendation;

• Image of the women in the media (Rapporteur: Mrs Poptodorova, Bulgaria, SOC): considered an outline report;

• held an exchange of views with Mrs Garajova, Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the Council of Europe, in charge of equality between women and men for the Committee of Ministers;

• the constitution of its sub-committees:

i. decided to reconstitute its Sub-Committee on Institutional Instruments as follows:
