The Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, meeting in Paris on 17 December 2001 with Ms Err (Luxembourg, SOC) in the Chair:

as regards:

-                     Situation of Maghrebi women in Europe (Rapporteur: Ms Roudy, France, SOC): considered a memorandum and held an exchange of views ;

-                     Co-operation with the European Parliament: took note of the meeting between the Bureau of the Committee and the Bureau of the Committee on Women’s Rights of the European Parliament held on 27 November 2001 in Brussels;

-                     Participation in meetings organised by other bodies: heard a statement by Ms Zapfl-Helbling (Switzerland, EPP/CD) on the joint NGO/Parliamentarians’ Conference on “Citizenship, solidarity: what sort of Europe do we want?” Strasbourg, 6-7 November 2001;

-                     Image of women in the media (rapporteur : Ms López González, Espagne, SOC) : held a hearing with the participation of:

Mrs Nadezhda Azhgikhina, Association of Women Journalists, Russia

Mrs Emelina Fernandez, Journalist, Doctor in Audiovisual Communication, Spain

Mrs Païvi Istala, Radio Suomi, Finland

Mrs Caroline Mechin, Ministry of Employment and Solidarity, France

-           Next meeting :  Strasbourg, during the Assembly 2002 first part session (21-25 January).
