The Committee on Migration, Refugees and Demography,  meeting in Strasbourg on 27 June 2000 with Mr Díaz de Mera (Spain, EPP/CD) in the Chair:

–          held an exchange of views on the Committee’s priorities and work programme for 2000–2001;

–            appointed Mr Gross (Switzerland, SOC) rapporteur on “clandestine immigration and the fight against traffickers” for the debate to be held under urgent procedure on 29 June 2000 at 3 pm, and unanimously approved a draft report on this subject; 

–          held an exchange of views on the humanitarian situation in Chechnya and appointed Mr Iwinski (Poland, SOC) as its spokesman for the debate on Chechnya to be held on 29 June 2000; 

–            authorised Mr Iwinski (Poland, SOC) to speak on its behalf for the debates on the accession of Armenia and Azerbaijan to be held on 28 June 2000;

–          decided to resume its meeting on 28 June at 2 pm (room 8).
