The Committee on Migration, Refugees and Demography, meeting in Strasbourg on 25 January 2001 with Mr Iwinski (Poland, SOC) in the Chair:

–                    approved the following modification in its Bureau: Mrs Bušic (Croatia, EPP/CD) replacing Mrs Aguiar (Portugal, EPP/CD) as second Vice-Chair;

–                    reconstituted its sub-committees as follows:

As regards:

–                    Humanitarian situation of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Chechnya (Rapporteur: Mr Iwinski, Poland, SOC): took position on two amendments to the report;

–                    Participation of immigrants and foreign residents in political life in the Council of Europe member States (Rapporteur: Mr Luís, Portugal, SOC): took position on fifteen amendments to the report;

–                    Committee's priorities and work programme 2001: held an exchange of views on the meetings which will be held during the year and agreed to accept the invitation to hold a meeting of its Sub-Committee on Refugees in Turkey (which replaces the former decision to send an ad hoc sub-committee) (subject to the authorisation by the Bureau);

–                    decided to hold its next meeting on 23 February 2001 in Paris (Council of Europe Office).

The Sub-Committee on Migration (of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Demography), meeting in Strasbourg on 25 January 2001, with Mr Iwinski (Poland, SOC) in the Chair:

–                    elected Mr Connor (Ireland, EPP/CD) to the Chair by acclamation;

–                    decided to elect the Vice-Chairperson during its next meeting;

–          left it to the Chair to decide on the date and place of the next meeting.
