The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Strasbourg on 4, 5 and 6 April 2000, under the Chairmanship of Mr Davis (United Kingdom, SOC):

As regards:

-            Conflict in Chechnya: (Rapporteur: Lord Judd, United Kingdom, SOC): adopted a preliminary draft recommendation and took position on the amendments;

-            Credentials of the delegation of the Russian Federation: appointed Ms Kristiina Ojuland (Estonia, LDR) Rapporteur, adopted a draft report and took position on the amendments;

-            Parliamentary contribution to the implementation of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe (Rapporteur: Mr András Bársony, Hungary, SOC): took position on amendments to the draft recommendation;

-           Bosnia and Herzegovina’s request for Council of Europe membership: (Rapporteur: Mr László Surjan, Hungary, EPP/CD): had an exchange of views with Mr Wolfgang Petritsch, High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina;

-            Request by the Parliament of Kazakhstan of the observer status with the Parliamentary Assembly: appointed Mr Tadeusz Iwinski (Poland, SOC) Rapporteur;

-            Composition of the sub-committees: on the basis of the proposals made by its Chairman, aiming at ensuring a better political and geographical balance, reconstituted its sub-committees as follows:
