The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Paris on 26 October 2000 under the Chairmanship of Mr Davis (United Kingdom, SOC),

As regards:

-           the Situation in the Middle-East (Rapporteur : Mr Taylor, United Kingdom, EPP/CD):

. held an exchange of views with:

Mr Yuli EDELSHTEIN, Member of the Knesset,

Mr Ziad ABU-ZAYYAD, Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Minister of Jerusalem Affairs,

. decided to adopt a report at its next meeting in view of an urgent procedure debate at the Standing Committee, on 9 November 2000 in Strasbourg (subject to the Standing Committee’s decision)

-           the Situation in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia:

. appointed Mr Frey (Switzerland, LDR) Rapporteur;

. held an exchange of views with:

Mr Pavle JEVREMOVIC, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia,

  Mr Vuk ZUGIC, Head of the Multilateral Co-operation Department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia,

. decided to adopt a report at its next meeting which will be presented to the Standing Committee on 9 November 2000, and to invite representatives of different political forces of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to be present at that meeting (subject to the constitution of the Parliament of this country at this date);

-           the Situation in the Chechen Republic (Rapporteur: Lord Judd, United Kingdom, SOC): authorised the Rapporteur to go to Moscow in December, together with the Rapporteur of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, to assess progress made by the Russian authorities on the requests set out by the Parliamentary Assembly in its Resolution 1227 (2000).
