The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Strasbourg on 8 November 2000 under the chairmanship of Mr Davis (United Kingdom, SOC):
As regards:
- the situation in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Rapporteur: Mr Frey, Switzerland, LDR):
. held an exchange of views with the following representatives of the Federal Parliament of the FRY:
Mr Dragoljub MICUNOVIC, Speaker of the Chamber of Citizens,
Mr Milan St. PROTIC, Deputy, Mayor of Belgrade,
Mrs Ljuljana COLIC, Deputy,
Mr Mile ISAKOV, Deputy.
. unanimously adopted a draft Recommendation and a draft Resolution which will be presented to the Standing Committee on 9 November 2000;
- the situation in the Middle East (Rapporteur: Mr Taylor, United Kingdom, EPP/CD):
. was informed by its Rapporteur on the discussion held in the Sub-Committee on the Middle East earlier today, and that the Sub-Committee intended to carry out a fact-finding visit to the Middle East on 9-14 January 2001;
. heard a statement by Mr MEYER- SHETRIT, member of the Knesset,
. was informed by its Chairman that an invitation had also been sent to the Palestinian Leglislative Council, but they were unable to attend;
. decided to propose to the Bureau that the Standing Committee hold a current affairs debate, instead of an urgent procedure debate, on 9 November 2000 in Strasbourg;

As regards the situation in the Middle East (Rapporteur: Mr Taylor, United Kingdom, EPP/CD):
- heard a statement by the Rapporteur and held an exchange of views;
- agreed (subject to the approval of the Plenary Committee and of the Bureau) to visit Israel and the Territories under the control of the Palestinian National Authorities from 9 to 14 January 2001, subject to confirmation after contacts with the Palestinian Legislative Council;
