The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Paris on 4 April 2001, under the chairmanship of Mr Terry Davis, (United Kingdom, SOC):
Paid homage to Mr Sinka, one of its members, recently deceased;:
Israeli-Palestinian conflict (Rapporteur: Mr John D. Taylor, United Kingdom, EPP/CD) : adopted a draft Resolution and a draft Recommendation;
Situation in Kosovo and the neighbouring regions (Rapporteur: Mrs Kautto, Finland, SOC): adopted a draft Resolution;
Financing of political parties: (Rapporteur: Mrs Stepová, Czech Republic, SOC): adopted a draft Recommendation;
Joint Working Group on Chechnya (Moscow, 21-22 March 2001): heard a statement on the meeting by the Chairman of the Joint Working Group;
Request for observer status with the Parliamentary Assembly: Parliament of Kazakhstan (Rapporteur: Mr Iwinski, Poland, SOC): heard a statement by the Rapporteur on his visit to the country (4-8 March 2001);
Request for Council of Europe membership: Bosnia and Herzegovina (Rapporteur: Mr Surjan, Hungary, EPP/CD : heard a statement by the Rapporteur on recent developments and decided to ask the Bureau to possibly hold a debate in the Assembly during the September 2001 part-session;
Parliamentary co-operation amongst the South Caucasian countries: decided to hold a special working meeting on this item in Istanbul with the possible participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the three countries concerned, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the host country;
Reference on the Situation in Georgia and the entire Caucasus region: appointed Mr Hornhues (Germany, EPP/CD) rapporteur;
Reference on the Drafting of a charter defining Europe’s “ common values”: appointed Mr Sole Tura (Spain, SOC) rapporteur;
European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI): heard a statement by Mr Bársony on the meeting held in Strasbourg on 13-16 March 2001;
decided to hold its next meetings as follows:
