The Political Affairs Committee, meeting in Strasbourg on 26 to 28 June 2001, under the chairmanship of Mr. Terry Davis (United Kingdom, SOC):
As regards:
The Situation in “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”(Rapporteur: Mr. Roman Jakič, Slovenia, LDR): examined a draft report, adopted a draft Resolution and a draft Recommandation and took position on the amendments;
“Joint Programme European Commission and Venice Commission”: authorised Mr. Gross (Switzerland, SOC) to visit Tbilissi (Georgia) on 15 – 16 July on the subject of the statute of Abkhazia.

Vilnius (Lithuania), 19 - 20 November 2001 – Exchange of views with the Chairman-in-Office of the Committee of Ministers (Subject to the Bureau’s authorisation)
Paris, 12-13 December 2001 – Plenary Committee and a hearing on “Self-Determination and Secession”.
The Sub-Committee on Relations with Non-Member Countries, meeting in Strasbourg on 26 June 2001, under the chairmanship of Mr. Jan Bergqvist, (Sweden, SOC) :
As regards :
The United Nations at the Turn of the New Century (Rapporteur: Mrs Hanne Severinsen, Denmark, LDR): held an exchange of views on the preparation of the Sub-Committee’s participation in the 56th General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, Autumn 2001);
The Situation in Algeria (Rapporteur: Mr. Atkinson, (United Kingdom, EDG): held an exchange of views on the recent developments;
Joint Seminar with the Canada-Europe Paliamentary Association (Ottawa, 22-23 October 2001) : held and exchange of views on the preparation of the seminar;

The Sub-Committee on the Middle East, meeting in Strasbourg on 27 June 2001, under the chairmanship of Mr. Henning Gjellerod, (Denmark, SOC):
As regards :
The Middle East Conflict (Rapporteur: Mr. John D. Taylor, United Kingdom, EPP/CD): held an exchange if views with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the next visit to Israel and the Territories under the control of the Palestinian National Authorities and on the role that the Council of Europe could play in this conflict, and decided to organise some seminars on topics which will be established in collaboration with the representatives of the Knesset and of the Palestinian Legislative Council during the Assembly’s September part-session.
