Release from prison of political prisoners in Tiraspol : Andrei Ivantoc, Alexandru Lesco and Tudor Petrov-Popa

Motion for a resolution

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it
1. Following the 1992 aggression war against the Republic of Moldova, planned and led by the military forces of the Russian Federation, a group of persons, citizens of the Republic of Moldova and lately of Romania were illegally arrested for political reasons by the Russian secret services and later sentenced by an illegal court from Tiraspol.
2. Despite all efforts of the Council of Europe and the international community to determine the release from illegal detention of Andrei Ivantoc, Alexandru Lesco and Tudor Petrov-Popa, the separatist regime from Tiraspol, in complicity with the Russian Federation refuses to comply with this demand.
3. Although unknown by the international community, the separatist enclave from the left side of Dniestr, thanks to the presence of the Russian military troupes in the region, and to direct political, diplomatic, military and economic support of the Russian Federation, continue to violate most basic human rights.
4. This is why the Assembly:
-
calls on the authorities of the Russian Federation – as a State controlling de facto the territory of Transnistria – and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova – as a State detaining de jure this territory – to immediately and unconditionally release from prison the political prisoners Andrei Ivantoc, Alexandru Lesco and Tudor Petrov-Popa;

decides to prepare a report on the situation of human rights in the separatist region of Transnistria;

calls on the Committee of Ministers to include on the agenda of its next meeting a debate on the Transnistria issue.
