The anniversary of “Oswiecim” (“Auschwitz”) liberation

Motion for a resolution

On the 27th January 2005, the world will celebrate a historic date – the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the largest nazi death camp “Oswiecim” (“Auschwitz”) by the Soviet Army.

“Oswiecim”, where more than 4 million human beings were put to death by the Nazis, became a symbol of one of the greatest European tragedies.

Citizens of all European states were victimized by fascist executioners. “Oswiecim” prisoners demonstrated the force of human spirit: their victims triumphed over their executioners.

The world condemned Nazism and its appalling crimes.

“Oswiecim” lessons should not go into oblivion.

On the eve of “Oswiecim” liberation we call on everybody to pay tribute to the memory of the Nazi’s victims and to erect in Strasbourg, near the Council of Europe premises, a Memorial Stone, dedicated to the memory of all the prisoners of all the fascist concentration camps.
