Immigration from Sub-Saharan Africa

Motion for a recommendation

presented by Mrs Cortajarena and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

1.       The new development of immigration to European countries coming from Sub-Saharan Africa is a tangible fact that poses a major problem in an important number of members’ countries of the Council of Europe.

2. Bearing in mind the increase in the last years and months of the migration flows coming from these Africa;

3.       Considering that Europe, in its present, social and economic conditions, cannot take an endless number of Sub-Saharan immigrants, this kind of immigrations ought to be regulated in a reasonable and well-balanced manner;

In view of the foregoing the Assembly recommends that the Committee of Ministers carry out an in-depth assessment of the present situation and the foreseeable prospects, aimed at working out an action programme and taking the necessary measures to give an adequate and democratic solution to this problem.
