Occupation of a building of the diplomatic mission of Lithuania in Rome

On 6 June 2006 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania unanimously adopted the resolution about the illegal occupied building of the diplomatic mission of the Lithuanian Republic in Rome by B. Mussolini and “invited the newly elected Italian Parliament and Government to responsibly and constructively resolve this matter …”.

The contribution of Italy, one of the founding countries of the Council of Europe to the cultural and human rights history of Europe is of enormous value.

After the Molotov – Ribbentropp pact and conspiracy between A. Hitler and J. Stalin, under the command of B. Mussolini, then ally of J. Stalin, in 1939, the building of the Lithuanian mission and its territory in Rome was occupied by force and after that illegally handed over to the Soviet Union. It is now under the temporary illegal possession of the Russian government.

For a small country such as Lithuania, the question of retrieving the building and the territory of the former diplomatic mission in Rome is the issue of restoration of historical justice and a real end to the tragic legacy of the Second World War.
