Condemnation of the most recent fatal outrage of the terrorist group ETA

Written Declaration No 390


This written declaration commits only the members who have signed it

1.       The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe wishes to express its strongest condemnation of the most recent fatal outrage committed by the terrorist group ETA at Barajas airport in Madrid on 30th December, which caused the loss of two human lives and huge material damage.

2.       The Assembly also wishes to express its solidarity with the families of the two Ecuadorian citizens who died as a consequence of this brutal outrage, with all those injured or otherwise affected by the explosion and with the Spanish people, who continue to suffer the threat of this criminal group.

3.       Terrorism constitutes a serious violation of human rights and democratic principles, which the Council of Europe is committed to upholding. The Assembly wishes to support Spain in its fight against ETA, within the context of the rule of law and strict respect for human rights.
