European support for a call on Myanmar to restore a constructive dialogue with the ICRC

This written declaration commits only the members who have signed it

The undersigned, members of the Assembly,

1.       Deeply concerned by the Government of Myanmar’s actions to curtail many of the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Myanmar, wish to highlight the following:

i.       the ICRC is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation with an exclusively humanitarian mission;

ii.       the ICRC should be allowed access to all areas in Myanmar where there are assistance and protection needs, notably in border areas;

iii.       the ICRC should be allowed to visit detainees in accordance with ICRC standard procedures.

2.       Invites the Government of Myanmar to restore a constructive dialogue with ICRC to address the pressing issues of humanitarian concern in the country.
