Considering that one of the objectives of the Council of Europe is the promotion of pacific policies to resolve internal and external conflicts in the world,

taking into account the encouraging progress made by Irak, the Parliamentary Assembly :

  • asks and encourages the political parties of Irak to resolve their differences exclusively by a constructive and inclusive political dialogue;
  • encourges the Iraqi government for its efforts as an emerging regional political participant regarding the nuclear programme of Teheran, through the organization in Bagdad of a dialogue/debate between Iran and the six great powers (5+1) to find a pacific solution on this topic;
  • wishes to examine the possibilities for co-operation between the Council of Europe and the Iraqi government in the field of human rights and democracy, especially as far as equal opportunities between men and women are concerned.
