MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION

on assistance to Albania

presented by Mr AARTS and others

      The Assembly,

1.       Welcoming the visit of its Committee on Economic Affairs and Development to Albania on 15 and 16 December 1992;

2.       Stressing the need to increase European co-operation with Albania as a matter of urgency, with a view to strengthening the democratic and economic reforms in this country;

3.       Welcoming in this connection Albania's own efforts to comply with the Council of Europe's standards of democracy and human rights,

4.       Calls on the governments and parliaments of Council of Europe member states:

i.       to increase, where possible, their economic assistance to Albania both bilaterally and multilaterally;

ii.       to intensify their co-operation with Albania in the framework of the Council of Europe so as to enable this country to join the Council of Europe as soon as possible.
