European Children's Day

The Assembly,

1. Recognising the overriding importance of the welfare of the child in member states of the Council of Europe;

2. Acknowledging that children represent the future of Europe;

3. Emphasising the priority of improving the necessary conditions all over Europe for raising children in a climate of tolerance, freedom and prosperity;

4. Underlining the urgency of taking all possible measures to ensure a better protection for children in Europe;

5. Calling for a strict respect of the rights of the child in all member countries;

6. Believing in the necessity for concrete action by the Assembly for the promotion of the status and rights of the child in member states of the Council of Europe;

7. Calls on the member states of the Council of Europe to declare and celebrate the 23rd of April as European Children's Day;

8. Instructs its Committee on Culture and Education and its Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee to work out the modalities for the celebration of European Children's Day.
