COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS

adopted by the Committee of Ministers on 10 January 1996 at the 554th meeting of the Ministers' Deputies

The Committee of Ministers has taken note of Recommendation 1282 (1996) of the Parliamentary Assembly on the request by the United States of America for observer status with the Council of Europe.

It draws the attention of the Assembly to Resolution (95) 37 of the Committee of Ministers on observer status for the United States with the Council of Europe[1], which, following the favourable opinion expressed in the recommendation, can enter into force.

The Committee of Ministers also recalls the decision, taken at the 551st meeting of the Deputies in December 1995, to invite Assistant Secretary of State, Richard Holbrooke, or another interlocutor of equivalent rank, to an exchange of views in the context of their political dialogue, if possible in January 1996, after the Parliamentary Assembly has confirmed its favourable opinion.
