1. The Assembly welcomes the positive reply to its Recommendation 1319 by the Committee of Ministers in favour of the organisation of a European Campaign on Global Interdependence and Solidarity : Europe against poverty and Social Exclusion.

2. An increasingly interdependent world poses new challenges to all nations. Globalisation extends to the economic, social, cultural and environmental spheres and calls for greater international solidarity and co-operation between all nations in order to identify adequate responses.

3. The Council of Europe has its proper role to play in fighting social exclusion and poverty and promoting social justice and human rights both in its member states and in other parts of the world.

4. Consequently, the Assembly calls on its member states to fully support the Council of Europe Global Solidarity Campaign and to make adequate financing available in order to ensure its success.

5. The Assembly decides to contribute to the campaign by holding a joint debate on the main aims of the campaign, that is to say, achieving globalisation without poverty and social exclusion, promoting sustainable development and broadening public information and support throughout Europe for policies of solidarity in an interdependent world.
