Violation of human rights of the Bosniac people in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in particular in the Sandjak region

Motion for a resolution

presented by Mr Gürkan and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and only expresses the views of the members who have signed it

      The Assembly,

1.       Considering that during the Kosovo crisis, the authorities of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia considerably increased the pressure on the Bosniac people and their organisations;

2.       Considering as unacceptable the illegal suppression of the municipal authorities, which were formed after the last local elections in the FRY in certain towns of the Sandjak region, as well as of Bosniac political parties;

3.       Being disturbed by the mobilisation and conscription of the Sandjak Bosniacs during the Kosovo crisis;

4.       Being concerned at the arbitrary dismissal of Bosniac workers in many cities of the FRY,

A.       Makes a strong appeal to the authorities of the FRY

i.       to guarantee respect of the human rights of the Bosniacs as well as if all peoples and minorities living in the country in accordance with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights;

ii.       to restore, without further delay, the abolished municipal authorities in all towns in Sandjak and to stop obstructing the political activities of the Bosniac people;

iii.       to take all necessary measures to ensure that the arbitrarily fired Bosniac workers return to their jobs;

B.       Decides to follow closely the evolution of the situation of the Bosniac people in the FRY, particularly in Sandjak.
