Creation of a mediator for children abducted within the family

Motion for a resolution

presented by Mrs Squarcialupi and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

The Assembly,

1.       Whereas the number of mixed marriages is constantly increasing as is the birth of children from parents of different nationalities, ethnic groups and religions;

2.       Whereas many children are abducted by one parent (usually the father) and track is lost of them for they are usually brought to countries which do not apply international regulations;

3.       In view of the experience of the European Parliament, which has assigned the task of searching for such children to a mediator (presently Ms Mary Banotti, EPP/Ireland), who has been able to solve a number of such dramatic cases,

4.       Requests that a mediator be established, to participate personally both in search activities and negotiations between parents when the appropriate authorities have not been able to solve the problem or make progress towards its solution.
