Condemnation of terrorist acts

Written Declaration No. 314

This written declaration commits only the members who have signed it

The undersigned, members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, condemn the despicable terrorist attack committed in Turkey against Mr Okkan, the Police Chief of Diyarbakır on 24 January 2001, resulting in the death of the Police Chief, as well as five other police officers.

This is an act of cowardice that cannot be justified in any way.

In this vein, the undersigned call upon all the political and social forces to deny any support, not even moral, to any organization that resorts to or preaches violence as a solution to any political, economic and social conflict, and invites all member states to unite in solidarity and cooperation in the combat against terrorism.
