The case of Mr Tekoğul

Written Question No. 394 to the Committee of Ministers

      Taking into consideration that, Mr Ömer Gazi Tekoğul, a citizen of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was forcefully abducted by the Greek Cypriot security agents, on 1 December 2000 from the village of Pyla, situated in the UN–controlled buffer zone, where the Greek Cypriot side has no jurisdiction, making the action illegal;

      Bearing in mind that, Mr Tekoğul, a man without any previous criminal record was mistreated and beaten, despite his cardiac problems and sentenced to 10 years of prison on drug possession charges, following a disputable trial, where the only witnesses were the security officials who actually abducted him, constitutes a grave violation to his right to a fair trial,

To ask the Committee of Ministers,

      Whether it has acted upon the case of Mr Tekoğul, against the Greek Cypriot authorities, to secure the immediate release of Mr Tekoğul and to invite the Greek Cypriot authorities to respect the principle of fair trial.
