Stopping the killing of community dogs in Bucharest

Motion for a recommendation

presented by Mr Tudor and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

1.       These days, the mayor of Bucharest, the capital of Romania, has started a veritable hunt against community dogs, killing 400 of them every day in terrible pain. Up to now, almost 3000 dogs have been killed and their bodies have been transformed into proteic flour for other animals. Another 70.000 dogs will be killed in the coming days.

2.       Special police-protected places for the killing of the dogs have been established and no member of any association for the protection of animal rights or dog lover is allowed to get in. Even some dogs belonging to private owners were killed too. The mayor refuses any other possibility provided by the associations for the protection of animal rights in order to solve this problem.

3.       This dog hunt has created a national psychosis because Romanians are well known for their Christianity, hospitality and spirit of tolerance. Each day, more people organise public meetings and express their willingness to adopt and take care of community dogs.

4.       The mayor of Bucharest has ceased any dialogue with the Romanian authorities, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister included. He goes along with his illegal plan against the city council decisions.

5.       The Assembly considers this situation as unacceptable and contrary to all its documents on the protection of animal rights and calls on the Romanian authorities to immediately end this sadistic torture and the killing of the community dogs by the irresponsible mayor of Bucharest.
