Need for greater European concern for the development of the Caspian Sea region

Motion for a resolution

presented by Mr Kirilov and others

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only the members who have signed it

1.       The Caspian Sea region- with its rich human potential and vast natural resources especially in oil and gas - is of great and growing importance for the future economic development of all Europe. It is a vital that the exploitation of oil and gas in and around the Caspian Sea, and their safe transportation to Europe, be pursued in a spirit of good co-operation between all the countries concerned.

2.       The Assembly, whose present membership includes key countries in the region, must work at interparliamentary level to foster both good co-operation and a greater understanding in all Council of Europe member states of the region’s crucial role for European peace, security and prosperity.
