Reply from the Committee of Ministers

adopted at the 756^th meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies (12–14 June 2001)

The Committee of Ministers took note of the texts adopted by the Standing Committee on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly in Istanbul, on 22-23 May 2001.

It took note of Opinions Nos. 228 and 229 (2001) and agreed to bear them in mind when considering the relevant legal instruments.

The Committee of Ministers brought Recommendations 1516 to 1521 (2001) to the attention of the governments of member states. It communicated Recommendations 1516, 1517 and 1519 (2001) to the competent committees of experts or organs for them to take account thereof in their work or with a view to collecting their views on the matter. It communicated Recommendation 1521 (2001) to the competent Rapporteur Group for examination and transmitted it to the European Institute for dispersed ethnic minorities, in Vilnius, for information.

The Committee of Ministers held a preliminary exchange of views on Recommendation 1518 (2001) and will continue to examine this text with a view to the expeditious formulation of a reply.

The Committee of Ministers adopted a reply to Recommendations 1519 and 1520 (2001). It took note of Resolutions 1247 to 1252 (2001) and brought them to the attention of the Governments of member states. It transmitted Resolution 1248 (2001) to the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT).
