IV. ACTIVITIES AND EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN RIGHTS

I have specialised in human rights since my university studies. I wrote my master’s dissertation on the relationship between jus cogens and human rights. I then prepared by doctoral thesis on “Collective human rights” (1991; published in 1992). Lastly, I published a book on “The European law concept of human rights” (1994); it concerned the relationship between the human rights instruments of the Council of Europe, the European Union and the OSCE. It was on the basis of this book that I received my accreditation. Part of the book I published as a professor on “The media in European Community law” (1999) also concerns human rights. I have also published studies and articles on the interpretation of human rights treaties, the theory of obligations stemming from the European Convention on Human Rights (and treaties in this field in general), the right to a fair hearing in civil proceedings, the right to freedom of expression, the right of ownership, the rights of minorities and the cloning of human beings.

At Toruń University I lectured in the international protection of human rights. I have also done so on many occasions for barristers, judges and legal advisers. I co-operated with the Helsinki Human Rights Foundation.
