Signatories: Mr Jonas GUNNARSSON, Sweden, SOC ; Mr Robert BIEDROŃ, Poland, SOC ; Ms Lolita ČIGĀNE, Latvia, EPP/CD ; Mr Indrek SAAR, Estonia, SOC ; Ms Chiora TAKTAKISHVILI, Georgia, ALDE

In the draft resolution, after paragraph 7.6, insert the following paragraph:

"the authorities of Georgia to carry out a prompt investigation into the large scale attacks by the violent counter-demonstrators against the participants of the rally against Homophobia on May 17 2013, and hold accountable those who incited and committed violent acts, as well as those who had the duty to prevent such crimes and did not act appropriately."

Explanatory Note :

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe strongly condemned the large scale violent attack against the participants of the LGBT rally on May 17 2013, and asked for prompt investigation and accountability for those who incited and committed the violence. It is the Assembly's duty to properly reflect the gravity of the discrimination against the LGBTI community in Georgia.
