Good economic relations between Italy and San Marino

This motion has not been discussed in the Assembly and commits only those who have signed it.

For San Marino, good economic relations with Italy are essential. The bilateral convention between San Marino and Italy for the avoidance of double taxation was signed in 2002, but Italy refuses to ratify it. Recently the relationship between the two countries has deteriorated considerably.

Because San Marino was black-listed by Italy, Italian firms who do business with San Marino have to undergo cumbersome controls and checks with heavy administrative burdens which discourage business between the two countries.

The economy of San Marino and the surrounding provinces clearly suffers from these measures with job losses and a fiscal squeeze in the state of San Marino.

Despite several calls, also from the Parliamentary Assembly, the Italian Minister of Finance does not meet his San Marino counterpart to resolve the problems.

The Assembly should do some research into the causes and quick solutions and invites both parties to resolve their problems quickly in the interest of both states and the Italian and San Marino workers whose jobs are at risk.
