Written question No. 671 to the Committee of Ministers | Doc. 13659 | 07 January 2015

Extradition requests of Turkey from Denmark

Question from Mr Ahmet Kutalmiş TÜRKEŞ, Turkey, ALDE

International co-operation in countering terrorism is of crucial importance. In this vein, compliance with international instruments including the Council of Europe conventions is an essential pillar in combatting terrorism effectively. Widespread refusals to extradite perpetrators of terrorist acts constitute a fundamental obstacle hampering international co-operation. PKK is a terrorist organisation as enlisted by the European Union as well as in respect of the relevant authorities of Denmark including the judicial authorities.

On this background, Mr Türkes,

To ask the Committee of Ministers,

How many request for extradition of members of the PKK terrorist organisation residing in Denmark have been conveyed by Turkey to the relevant Danish authorities?

What were the responses of the Danish authorities in relation to these extradition requests and what measures and actions were taken in view of Denmark’s international obligations?
