Written declaration No. 443 | Doc. 12241 | 29 April 2010
Condemning the interruption and destruction of telecommunications in Kosovo* and Metohija
Whereas, on 23 April 2010, on the territory of Kosovo* and Metohija, telecommunications equipment belonging to legal service-providers of the Republic of Serbia, which have been continually, and in accordance with the regulations, operating and providing their services to all citizens of Serbia, was destroyed and communications were interrupted.
We the undersigned:
- note that the destruction of that telecommunications equipment by illegal bodies of the self-proclaimed state of Kosovo* represents yet another example of attempted intimidation and pressure intended to force all Serbs to leave Kosovo*, and thus to thwart the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and other international acts and standards;
- note that the above-mentioned act has deprived the people of their right to communicate freely, as well as of other rights proclaimed by the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms;
- note that the above-mentioned act violated property rights of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens;
- condemn the vicious destruction of telecommunications facilities of Serbian service-providers, and urge the representatives of the international community in Kosovo* and Metohija to restore the previous legal and legitimate situation and prevent the recurrence of this and all other forms of violence.
